Responsibilities for Senior Marketing & Public Relations Specialist include: Strong knowledge of public relations best practices and procedures Must be able to handle crisis communication when needed Proactively seek stories from entities to fulfill Banner Health’s mission and values, and manage the Banner Health image and reputation Proven track record developing solid relationships with journalists and other media professionals – local, national, and international media contacts Responsible for proactively generating, creating, writing, publishing and maintaining up-to-date and accurate content on a variety of channels including but not limited to the employee web site, earned media, paid media, and social media channels Knowledge using social media platforms to help drive brand awareness and engagement Proven ability to pitch and secure media in local market, print, broadcast and radio Serve as media relations lead on identifying and monitoring relevant news coverage with respect to stake holders and their competitors Be able to write clearly and informatively, edit works for spelling and grammar, adapts writing style to meet need Must be able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines Accompanies Banner Health spokes people to media interviews; contributes and conducts themselves professionally Bilingual candidate STRONGLY preferred. POSITION SUMMARY This position creates and maintains positive relationships with internal and external constituencies through the utilization of a variety of media activities and techniques which present the organization’s position and business case to a broad or select group of constituencies. Incumbents are expected to work independently with minimal supervision and have specialized knowledge in at least one functional area of public relations (earned media, content, social media, community engagement, etc.) CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Serves as a team member on one or more designated Customer and Brand Experience (CBE) team(s) to create content specific to that group and serve as CBE liaison to help coordinate and manage broader CBE workflow objectives. 2. Develops and/or incorporates efficient corporate communications and applies standardized and best-practice communication methods to ensure maximum leverage of strategic messaging and other pertinent information across the organization or to selected audiences within the organization. 3. Leads special projects or initiative teams that need CBE support to ensure success. Makes recommendations on tactics or strategies to enhance work group performance. Serves as a lead on a variety of special projects, groups and entity committees. 4. As needed, participate in entity disaster committees to ensure appropriate communications support is provided that is crucial to successful disaster management. May also serve as on-call earned, social or web site resource to respond to unanticipated entity or corporate events/situations. 5. Incumbents in this position work on projects that are often complex in nature, are primarily digital, and have wide organizational impact. Projects may require evaluation of technology requirements, technical troubleshooting and development of documentation for training purposes. Incumbents may provide guidance to the Visual Designer and outsourced creative vendors to ensure adherence to brand standards, project objectives and timelines. Works with internal clients and stakeholders to ensure projects meet objectives and expectations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a strong knowledge of public relations and/or marketing as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or related field. Skill level typically achieved through two to four years’ experience in public relations, communications, and/or marketing. Effective organizational skills and demonstrated experience in diverse, creative writing, strong editing, design and layout capabilities, a basic understanding of website development and internet/intranet communications are required. Sensitivity to public perceptions and their implications/interpretation is required. Effective human relations and communications skills required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Working knowledge of major trends in healthcare. Knowledge and experience with nonprofit marketing communications preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
