Principal Backend Engineer

About the Role

Create and maintain a holistic view of the backend stack and codebase and drive the transformation towards a clean and maintainable foundation for current products and future greenfield projects. You will be an integral part of the engineering team moving forward, and will have the freedom to leave your mark on our backend architecture for years to come. This includes, but is not limited to; suggesting technologies and languages for the backend tech stack and preparing the foundation for all greenfield projects for the coming years.


  • Form and maintain a holistic view of the backend architecture
  • Own and drive the move towards a clean, performant and extensible codebase
  • Propose and drive implementation of new technologies, paradigms and languages
  • Coach and mentor engineers on best practices around Python backend design and architecture
  • Document current and future architecture and technical decisions concisely and clearly

What you have

  • Extensive full lifecycle experience in multiple, diverse, product development centric companies
  • Extensive startup and scaleup experience
  • Solid experience with diverse tech stacks and engineering environments
  • Solid foundation in software engineering principles and best practices, ideally in/with the Python ecosystem
  • Solid experience in architecture of software applications and their transition through different phases of a company
