Bloomington, Indiana,, Department OFC ACADEMIC SUPP & DIVERSITY (BL-OASD-IUBLA) Department Information African American Arts Institute (AAAI) a part of the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs Job Summary Events and Marketing Assistant contributes to the planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of AAAI events and marketing activities, most of which are centered on its performance ensembles–African American Choral Ensemble, African American Dance Company, and IU Soul Revue–which are courses in the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies. This position resides in the AAAI’s Marketing and Communications office, and reports to the Events and Communications Specialist. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Participate in planning and implementing activities and events that promote AAAI and its ensembles. Assemble materials and information that will assist presenters in their efforts to promote the AAAI and its ensembles. Coordinate distribution of posters, flyers, brochures, and other printed and digital promotional materials. Assist in managing AAAI social media accounts and update promotional content. Maintain updated email and mailing lists and contact databases for promotional communications. Work on special projects (such as member recruitment initiatives, market research, fundraising, etc.) as assigned. Attend and work the door, promotional booths, or tables at performances and other events. Assist in coordinating student volunteers to work and promote AAAI events. Other duties as assigned by the Events and Communications Specialist. Qualifications Minimum Education: One year of undergraduate study in arts management, advertising, marketing, or related fields. Minimum Experience : One year serving in a marketing or group leadership role, preferably in the performing arts. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Excellent communication skills Experience in marketing and promotion, especially of the performing arts Excellent interpersonal and networking skills Familiarity with the IU Bloomington campus and a history of engagement with various campus units and student groups Skill and experience in the use of social media is essential for promotional purposes Ability to work independently (self-motivated) and as a member of a creative team Strong sense of organization, particularly in regard to planning events and maintaining records Excellent computer skills across Mac and PC platforms using MS Office Suite applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to work flexible hours Able to build and maintain rapport with faculty, staff, students, parents, representatives, and community Practical application with database, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation software, e-mail, and search engine Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that is insurable by Indiana University Working Conditions / Demands The Events and Marketing Assistant must: Attend staff meetings, orientation and training sessions, events and performances as assigned Maintain regularly scheduled office hours as required by the supervisor Arrive promptly to all job-related events and meetings and maintain professionalism as a representative of university, OVPDEMA, and AAAI Take responsibility for security and care of university equipment and facilities that are assigned for position incumbent’s use Adhere to AAAI, university, OVPDEMA policy and procedures and federal regulations Must maintain a maximum of no more than 29 hours per week across all positions of employment with Indiana University Work Location Bloomington, Indiana Advertised Salary $12.75 per hour Work Hours 10 to 15 hours per week. Must schedule a minimum of 10 hours per week to work in office; office hours must be scheduled with the permission of Events and Communications Specialist.
