Executive Director (Resources) Amber Valley is one of the largest boroughs in Derbyshire with a population of around 128,000. With a strong agricultural base, the area has a great deal of scenic beauty, situated on the southern tip of the Pennine Chain and there are many attractive and interesting villages. Amber Valley Borough Council has achieved some excellent local outcomes – three prestigious leisure centres, eight green flags, an award-winning market town and good levels of street cleaning. The Council has a track record of sound financial management, achieving its savings targets and delivering a balanced budget and has a robust approach to its medium-term financial planning. We are now looking to appoint to the post of Executive Director (Resources) to work alongside the Executive Director (Operations), lead the implementation of the council’s strategic management, vision, values and objectives and manage an interesting and diverse portfolio of services. The individual will develop an effective working relationship with the Leader of the Council and fellow cabinet members around various Council matters. With seven direct reports, the postholder will be the Section 151 Officer, take on the shared Chief Executive duties and will provide financial advice to the Council and Cabinet and other regulatory committees and boards and be responsible for the Council’s: financial administration budget production financial statements treasury management budget monitoring and reporting The post holder will also be on an annual rotation with the other Executive Director as the Council’s Head of Paid Service and be responsible for the management of the Council’s workforce. We require a CCAB qualified accountant who has a thorough understanding of the key issues facing local government and who has the ability to build strong working relationships with wide-ranging stakeholders. You will be politically astute, have significant experience of governance, financial and performance regimes in local government and have substantial experience in a strategic senior leadership role in a complex and customer focused public sector organisation.
