Detroit, Michigan, Essential Functions: Develops, executes, and manages the strategic marketing and communication priorities, activities, and initiatives for the division of Student Auxiliary Services. Serving as a member of the Associate Vice President’s management team, this position is also responsible for planning, managing and implementing division-wide projects and initiatives in support of the division’s strategic plan. This position directly supervises the overall staffing, operations and budget for the Student Center Graphics organization. Reports to Associate Vice President and Chief Housing Officer.Provides leadership, strategic planning and direction for communication and marketing activities throughout the Division of Student Auxiliary Services, including the offices of Student Center Administration, Housing and Residential Life, Student Auxiliary Services Facilities, Dining Services, the Wayne State University Bookstore, and Wayne State University Summer Conference Services. Serves as the subject matter expert regarding marketing and communication activities. Evaluates and determines best practices and implements changes.Leads marketing and communication efforts to increase visibility and awareness of the Division of Student Auxiliary Services to both internal and external stakeholders to the University. Ensure key stakeholders receive timely and effective communications. Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and organize divisional communications across a variety of channels including but not limited to email, digital, print and social media. Responsible for the content creation, organization, and production of brochures, bulletins, event invitations, newsletters, magazines, postcards, press releases, letters, HTML targeted emails and other publications for dissemination to internal and external stakeholders across a variety of platforms.Supervises all areas of Student Center Graphics including hiring and supervision of student staff, management of financial processes, maintaining and ordering supplies and capital equipment, setting goals and enhancing service offerings. Provide overall leadership and direction to staff. Set expectations & focus, assign duties, delegate ‎‎responsibilities, evaluate activities, prepare performance ‎appraisals & professional development plans. Provide coaching, mentoring and teaching. Manage the ‎‎administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, ‎promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, and ‎and salary ‎‎adjustments. Provide ongoing performance feedback, goal setting, and development plans for staff. ‎‎‎Plan for future staffing needs. Provide timely communications to staff.Develop, implement and oversee specific continuous quality improvement programs and initiatives. Compile data for benchmarking. Lead the development and implementation of project requirements, plans and objectives to ensure successful project completion. Track, monitor and follow the progress of projects, action items and strategies to ensure deadlines, outcomes, and reporting needs are met for division wide projects. Develop and monitor project budgets and expenditures to ensure completion of projects within allotted resources. Develop and coordinate communication channels and reporting mechanisms to facilitate project execution. Create communication plans to determine the flow of communication regarding project progress.Manage stakeholder relationships to build consensus regarding project scope and outcomes. Serve as a liaison between Student Auxiliary Services, Wayne State schools, colleges and divisions, as well as outside agencies and vendors. Represent the Associate Vice President of Student Auxiliary Services at meetings. Establish priorities and allocate resources division wide. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience:Minimum 5 years of marketing and communications related experience required, preferably with a large, complex organization. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong problem-solving capability in a dynamic and complex environment.Strong leadership and organizational skills, and ability to coordinate programs and activities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts to groups.Ability to work collaboratively with other administrators, outside agencies and other educational institutions to plan initiatives and resolve concerns.Ability to work with management, users and technical staff to analyze and diagnose off-track projects and provide resolution.Ability to work in a confidential and diplomatic manner.Able to take action in solving problems, while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; review facts and weigh options in line with the University’s best interests.
