About the Company

Centamin sees the desert as its oasis. The exploration and development company explores for gold in Egypt. Its principal property is the Sukari Gold project, located in the Eastern Desert Concession near the Red Sea. After investing $330 million in a stage 4 expansion, Centamin aims to grow the project’s production; it processed 5.7 million tonnes of ore in 2013. Centamin in 2011 also acquired Sheba Exploration (UK), which explores for gold and base metals in Ethiopia. It began exploring for gold in Egypt in 1995, and in 2005 was granted a 160 sq. km. exploration lease covering the Sukari Hill gold project. In 2009 the Sukari mine began production, making it the first large-scale modern gold mine in Egypt.
